Benzoyl peroxide or Accutane iPledge programm?

Posted in Guest Post on 24.07.10 by Merlyn

The common unexpensive remedy for acne many people prone to acne mention is benzoyl peroxide. perhaps that’s because at over-the-counter market, benzoyl peroxide is one of the active ingredients in the popular cleansers, gels and lotions. From the start of the over-the-counter boom in acne treatment, the main aspect has become to find the cheapest solution to the problem. Becuase of the power of acne to leave scars on even the toughest mind, some people just got crasy in esearches of an effective remedy. If the best treatment is also the cheapest, that’s a pleasant news.

The cause of acne, bacteria called Propionibacteria cannot live without enough oxygen. That’s why, in normal conditions, this common bacteria is no problem. Living either on the skin or in the pores which are fully exposed to the air, they never grow to be a threat. But, once excess oil fills the pores and traps the dead cells inside, the environment become anaerobic or oxygen poor. This is the ideal environment for explosive growth. Why benzoyl peroxide may seem the perfect counter? Because it lets the pores open and allows more oxygen to enter. So you didn’t have to pay extra and buy a packaged product. This substance as a lotion of about 2.5% usually works great. Anything stronger can irritate the skin. If needed, you can always start off at a lower strength and then move back to 2.5% if you are not satisfyed with results after two weeks or so.

The approach is simple – cleanse the whole face in the morning and evening, spreading a thin layer over the skin. The dead skin is removed and spots are prevented. But remember benzoyl peroxide is a bleach, so you shouldn’t get it on your clothes or a towel. If you are going to bed after cleaning the face, make sure it won’t и удуае on your pillow and sheets. You could also apply a moisturizer for preventing your skin from drying out after using the remedy.

Benzoyl peroxide comes in various combinations. Used in different strengths it was matched against combinations with clindamycin and salicylic acid. Over two/four weeks of the trials, the combination with salicylic acid gave the best results, while however after ten to twelve weeks, no real difference were proven between pure benzoyl peroxide and either of the two combinations. In cases of severe acne and the over-the-counter products prove ineffective, Accutane (Isotretinoin) is a good alternative.

But with this drug another problem arises, at least for women… If you are able to give birth to children, be aware that Accutane is dangerous for the fetus in case you happen to get pregnant. The formal approach in the USA is to use the Accutane iPledge Project, which may seem too intrusive: the drug only used when you proove to use two contraceptive methods at least. It’s better to take precautions and not expose your baby to risk. Though if you are not planning children you can avoid iPledge by ordering online.
